The inaugural 2021 Tissot UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup (Hong Kong, China) began today (May 13) at the Hong Kong Velodrome, on the opening day of the 4-day tournament, three team events were scheduled. In the Women’s Team Pursuit, as the Hong Kong Team is the only participating team, there were no rankings nor medals awarded. Despite only racing against themselves, Sarah Lee Wai-sze, Jessica Lee Hoi-yan and Yeung Cho-yiu still tried their very best and clocked a time of 50.029 seconds. Sarah Lee will make an appearance tomorrow (May 14) again, as is Jessica Lee. The duo will compete at the Women’s Sprint, and Sarah will no doubt be aiming for the gold.

The Men’s Team Pursuit started after Mr. Leung Chi Wa, Chairman, Organising Committee, 2021 Tissot UCI Track Cycling Nations Cup Hong Kong, China, and Mr. Leung Cheong Ming, MH, JP, President, The Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China hosted the video-conferencing Opening Ceremony. The event was contested by three teams, led by Domenic Weinstein, a two-time World Championships Men’s Individual Pursuit silver medalist, Germany recorded a time of 3 minutes 55.115 seconds to top all teams and qualified first in the morning session. Despite making some changes to their starting lineup in the night session, Germany still managed to clock a time of 3 minutes 52.429 seconds, finishing ahead of Denmark (3 minutes 56.800 seconds) and took home the gold medals. Japan featured at the Final Places 3-4 race with no opponents, they finished with a time of 4 minutes 04.303 seconds and got the bronze medals.
In the final event of the day, four teams including Malaysia, Ukraine, UCI Pro Team Dream Seeker Racing Team, and Spain battled it out in the Qualifying to determine their rankings. In the end, Ukraine outpaced Malaysia in the Final Places 3-4 race to win the bronze medal, while UCI Pro Team Dream Seeker Racing Team edged out Spain for the gold.
